On the Saturday nearest the summer solstice, downtown Fairbanks throws Alaska's biggest single-day festival — twelve hours of music and vendors, all in broad daylight at midnight. Here's the Midnight Sun Festival.

What it is

From noon to midnight, the streets of downtown Fairbanks fill with 40+ live performances across multiple stages, 120+ food and craft vendors, and family activities — and it's free.

The midnight sun

Around the solstice, Fairbanks gets roughly 22 hours of daylight. The festival runs right through the "night" with the sun still up — a genuinely surreal experience.
