How to Enter the Mount Marathon Race
Last Frontier Events|June 20, 2026
Want to run straight up a mountain on the Fourth of July? Mount Marathon is one of the hardest entries in American racing — here's how it works.
A limited field
The race caps its field, so getting a bib is competitive. Spots come through a mix of guaranteed entries (for past finishers), a lottery, and a small number auctioned off — demand far outstrips supply.
The races
There are men's and women's races plus a junior race for younger runners. Each sends competitors up and down the 3,022-foot peak above Seward.
Know what you're signing up for
This isn't a road 5K. The climb is relentless and the descent — loose scree, mud, and cliff bands — is genuinely dangerous. Train on steep terrain and respect the mountain.
