Fourth of July in Seward: Mount Marathon & More

Last Frontier Events|June 20, 2026

The Mount Marathon Race is the centerpiece, but the Fourth of July in Seward is a full-on celebration. Here's how to make a day (or weekend) of it.

The town's biggest day

Seward goes all-out for Independence Day — the race, a parade, vendors, and crowds packing the streets between the mountains and Resurrection Bay.

Book lodging way ahead

Rooms in and around Seward sell out far in advance for the Fourth. Reserve as early as you can, or plan to day-trip from Anchorage (about 2.5 hours) or take the Alaska Railroad.

Make it a weekend

Pair race day with a Kenai Fjords National Park glacier-and-wildlife cruise — one of the best boat trips in Alaska, right out of Seward's harbor.

See the Mount Marathon guide, browse Southcentral events, and read how to watch the race.
