Kenai Dipnet Fishery
Thousands wade into the Kenai River with dipnets to harvest sockeye salmon.
The annual personal-use dipnet fishery opens on the Kenai River, drawing thousands of Alaskans to wade into the surf and river mouth with large circular nets to catch sockeye salmon. A uniquely Alaskan tradition where residents can harvest up to 25 salmon per head of household.
