Biography

Portugal. The Man formed in Wasilla, Alaska, in 2004, founded by John Gourley (lead vocals, guitar) and Zach Carothers (bass), who met and began playing music together at Wasilla High School. The band later relocated to Portland, Oregon, and built its catalog through a string of studio albums released roughly annually in its early years.

The band's commercial breakthrough came with the single "Feel It Still," from the 2017 album Woodstock, which reached the top of Billboard's Alternative Songs and Hot AC charts and won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in January 2018. Other studio albums include In the Mountain in the Cloud (2011), Evil Friends (2013), and Shish (2025).
