This Week in Fairbanks & the Interior — May 18 to May 24

Last Frontier Events|May 18, 2026

Late May in Alaska is the start of the real summer push. Fairbanks is within days of its first 70-degree stretch, gardens are going in, and the daylight clock has essentially stopped — it barely gets dark before it starts getting light again. The summer solstice is less than a month out, and the excitement building toward it is real. Alaska in late May feels like a place that's been let out of a long confinement and is making up for lost time.

The Interior is fully alive now. Creamer's Field is hosting shorebirds and sandhill cranes on their way north, the Chena and Salcha rivers are popular with early-season anglers, and the trails on Murphy Dome and Ester Dome are busy on evenings that last until midnight. Local events lean outdoor at this time of year — festivals, farmers markets, and community gatherings that take advantage of the endless evening light.

Check the full lineup of Interior events for the week of May 18–24 in the listings below — and note that many outdoor events are added with short notice, so check back through the week.

The Interior is heating up this week (May 18–24) with 2 events in and around Fairbanks, North Pole, and the Tanana Valley.
