Twisted Sister are a New York glam metal band formed in 1972, best known for their flamboyant visuals and hard-rock anthems that became defining songs of the 1980s. 'We're Not Gonna Take It' and 'I Wanna Rock' from their 1984 album 'Stay Hungry' are among the most recognizable rock songs in history, thanks in no small part to their iconic and humorous MTV music videos featuring Dee Snider.
The image and the music
Twisted Sister built their reputation in the New York club scene with a theatrical glam image and hard-charging rock — Dee Snider's wild hair, makeup, and commanding stage presence alongside genuine songwriting chops. The image was outrageous; the songs were undeniable.
The anthems
'We're Not Gonna Take It' and 'I Wanna Rock' are genuine crowd anthems — songs that get everyone singing and pumping fists regardless of whether they were alive when they were released. Their live show leans into those moments without apology.
Pro tip
These are audience-participation songs at their core — just sing the words and throw your fist in the air. That's exactly what the band wants.
