Biography

Marian Call is a singer-songwriter based in Juneau, Alaska, after nearly a decade living in Anchorage. Born in Gig Harbor, Washington, in 1982, she graduated from Stanford University in 2004 with a degree in composition and vocal performance before relocating to Alaska, where she has lived and toured for more than a decade.

Her music blends folk, pop, funk, and jazz influences, drawing comparisons to Joni Mitchell, They Might Be Giants, and Regina Spektor. Several early songs, including "I'll Still Be a Geek After Nobody Thinks It's Chic," drew on science-fiction fandom, connecting her to online geek-culture audiences. She has built her career through crowdfunded albums and DIY tours, including a trip to all 50 states plus Canadian provinces and a Kickstarter-funded European tour.

Call has released albums including Got to Fly (2008), Something Fierce (2011), Standing Stones (2017), and Swears (2020). In 2017 she received an Individual Artist Award from the Rasmuson Foundation to support work in digital music production.
