This Week in Juneau & Southeast — Mar 27 to Apr 2

Last Frontier Events|March 27, 2026

March in Southeast Alaska is a different animal than breakup season up north. The Inside Passage stays relatively mild year-round, and by late March the region is seeing reliable stretches of clearing weather, longer days, and the first bursts of coastal spring. The fishing season is starting to stir, whale-watching trips out of Juneau are resuming, and the community calendars in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka are filling up after a quieter winter.

Southeast's late-March calendar is anchored by the region's arts, cultural, and community traditions. Juneau's performing arts scene — the Juneau Symphony, Perseverance Theatre, local music venues — is in full late-season stride. Ketchikan's fishing community is gearing up for the season ahead, and Sitka's Russian heritage events and natural history programming are drawing early-season visitors. Whale-watching in Frederick Sound is beginning to produce humpbacks as the whales follow the herring north.
