This Week in Juneau & Southeast — Apr 20 to Apr 26

Last Frontier Events|April 20, 2026

Late April in Southeast Alaska is when the cruise season shifts from a trickle to a steady flow. Juneau's downtown waterfront goes from quiet to buzzing week by week as the big ships begin their regular schedule, and the communities up and down the Inside Passage are ramping up their summer programming in earnest. The fishing season is open on many species, the trail systems are in great shape, and the days are noticeably longer — past 14 hours by late April and still climbing.

Juneau is particularly active in late April. The community events calendar is stacking up with music, arts, and outdoor happenings timed to coincide with the opening of visitor season. The capital city's unique energy — part government town, part fishing community, part outdoor adventure hub — is at its most vibrant now, with locals and early visitors sharing the waterfront and the hiking trails in roughly equal measure. Sitka and Ketchikan are similarly busy, their harbors active with fishing boats and charter vessels getting into full seasonal swing.
