Biography
Alaska Redd (born Joshua Silva) is a Fairbanks-based rapper, producer, and label owner who began his music career in 1994 with the local label 50 Belo Records. He is frequently described in Alaska press as a pioneering figure in the state's hip-hop scene, having built a recording and performing career in Fairbanks that has spanned three decades.
In 2002 he opened Redd Dot Studios in Fairbanks, a recording studio he has continued to operate for roughly twenty years, recording other local artists in addition to his own material. He has released multiple albums through his own ReddDott Productions, including the 2022 release O.G.A.R., a 12-track album that received airplay on Fairbanks commercial radio.
Alaska Redd has toured widely within the state; in a 2022 interview he described having performed from Utqiaġvik to Valdez, Ketchikan to Tok, Fort Yukon to Homer, and press coverage as far back as 2012 documented statewide tour dates.
