Shaktoolik in the race
Shaktoolik is the gateway to one of the trail's most feared stretches: the crossing of the sea ice of Norton Bay to Koyuk, where there's no shelter and the wind can be ferocious.
Mile markers are approximate and shift with the year's route. Shaktoolik sits on the bering coast leg of the 2027 southern route.
